Famous Faces #1
Popular people to pass our porches…
Here at Flat Cap we are accustomed to familiar faces & popular passers by, however The Courthouse walls will have many more stories to tell than we do. None more so than the trial of Alan Turing.
Most reading this will be aware of his famous exploits. Code breaker. Mathematician. Enigma. Words all commonly associated with Alan Turing.
But Knutsford. The Courthouse. Cheshire. You’d be forgiven for asking.
It was in here at the old Knutsford Crown Court, in the heart of Cheshire, where Alan Turing stood accused in 1952. Sat in what was then known as the Sessions Court, Alan Turing pleaded guilty to all charges. His proposed crime? Being homosexual and 1952, that was illegal.
Alan Turing was then sentenced in Knutsford Crown Court (The Courthouse). Sentenced to chemical castration despite his heroic work during World War 2. Yes you read that correctly, chemical castration!
Alan Turing was finally recognised for his achievements in 2016. His life a story of heroics & abjection. At Flat Cap Hotels we are proud to tell the small but tragic part that The Courthouse had to play, in honour of a National hero.
Today the Courtroom is now one of the largest ballrooms in South Cheshire. With private event space used for weddings, dinners & banquets holding a maximum capacity of 192.
At Flat Cap Hotels we pride ourselves on the history of our properties. And we challenge you to find another boutique hotel in South Cheshire with more.
